Node Pole part of DCD Debate on sustainability in the datacenter industry
On the 29th of September 2020 Node Pole CEO Patrik Öhlund joins Dan Loosemore from DatacenterDynamics and Greg Jones from Schneider Electric in an online discussion on "Datacenter & Sustainability: the ambition vs reality".
Data usage increases every year, and the trend has only accelerated in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. There is also an increasing awareness that data usage is not free from environmental impact, rather, emissions from the datacenter industry match the global aviation industry. With this in mind, the datacenter industry has developed several initiatives to limit emissions and meet customer demands for green data.
Patrik Öhlund leads the trade organization iMason’s Sustainability Committee and has been a contributing factor to the adoption of the ambitious climate target Every click improves the future; aiming for substantial change within the datacenter industry.
Topics to be discussed on the panel debate include:
- Key demand-drivers for sustainability: regulation vs customer expectation
- Thinking sustainability first: the role of sustainable practices in procurement
- Sustainability beyond PUE: are current metrics sufficient?
- Sustainability as a competitive advantage
